Richmond Bridge, Tasmania

Richmond Bridge, a lovely quaint old historic icon is located just 25 klms. north of Hobart, Tasmania’s capital and it crosses the Coal River.

It is the oldest stone bridge still in use in Australia having been built in 1825. Convict labour from the nearby Richmond goal was used in the construction. Sandstone was used in building the bridge which provided an all-weather route to the east coast.

In 2005 the bridge was recognized as an outstanding historic place and was added to the Australian Notional Heritage List.
