The Bay of Fires Walking Track, Tasmania

Bay of Fires     The walking track through the Bay of Fires is actually located within the Freycinet National Park. It is approximately 30 klms long and in places it passes through rocky stretches of coastal scrub-land.  The bay of Fires is so named because the indigenous owners of the land had many middens along the coast and the fires that were lit in them were first spotted by English navigator Tobias Furneaux, so he named it “The Bay of Fires”.
