Christine Hopkins

Art is part of your soul, it pushes you, challenges you, it lifts you. It is an ongoing journey”.

Art can pull you in many different directions, and for the last 30 months, the subject matter of light and shadows, of trees and the interplay of shapes and colour have dominated my artistic journey. Sometimes I counterbalance this with fun, colourful paintings of animals, particularly cows!

Nearly always I start with a reference photo that has meaning for me, then I explore and exaggerate the colour and light, but hopefully still holding onto the initial impulse or essence that sang out to me. The possibilities are endless and enticing!

I work primarily in acrylics and occasionally mixed media, using vibrant and high key colours to explore and exaggerate the elements of light and shadows of various subjects. Some describe my work as expressionistic or fauvist, but primarily I would describe it as contemporary realism.

I have held 2 solo exhibitions, a mini solo exhibition, as well as joint exhibitions, plus many group exhibitions. Furthermore, I was also a finalist in the 2021 Sunshine Coast Local Artist, Local Content exhibition at Caloundra Art Gallery. I have also received 6 Highly Commended(s) in exhibitions as well as having work in private collections in the UK and USA.

The journey continues ….
