Rainy School Day

When I leave in the morning I get to drive past the local bus stop where the children line up for the bus. On dry days rucksacks mark their position in the line but on rainy days they all huddle in the miserable weather hoping the bus will come soon. I feel for them but I am amused by the queue never the less. I’ve drawn this from my memory. No pictures were taken of the schoolchildren. This is a watercolor painted on rice paper to get the translucent feel of a rainy day. The artwork has been sealed on both sides with matt finish spray then sealed with Dorland’s wax as a preservative.

Watercolour on rice paper, mounted on a panel.

Framed size: 50 x 62 cm. Black lucite frame, white mat.
